Renting Out My RV – Company Comparison

There is an awesome concept to having your RV pay for itself. When you have your RV sitting in your driveway during the months you can’t travel, you are definitely leaving money on the table. Why not look into some revenue options especially if you’re about to send a child to college, upgrade your RV or buy a new car.  We went ahead and took a look at the top 3 RV rental companies and laid out the basics on how they work and what they offer.

Which Companies Can I Rent My RV With?

  1. Outdoorsy
  2. RVshare
  3. RVezy

These companies are getting RV owners and renters together. There are many different types of RV’s and locations to pick them up in the US and Canada. Each company has the same business model, you put your RV up for rent and they provide the platform to list it and the merchant service to collect the funds. This creates a neutral environment between the renter and the owner.

How Much Can You Earn Renting Out Your RV?

At first glance each website will show a price that you could potentially earn for renting out your RV, of course you will not know for certain until you have listed yours.

  • RVshare – $50,000 per year
  • Outdoorsy – $22,000 per year
  • Rvezy-  $1,400 per week

You’ll see these numbers when you select ‘List Your RV’ or ‘Rent your RV’ on each site. It is a number that you are able to obtain if you are prioritizing your rental and taking every opportunity.

An RV rental could make you a little or a lot of money depending how much time you offer it for rent. You will be responsible for being present for the exchange. If you are planning on using your RV during peak travel periods or you are not available to meet with renters, it will significantly reduce your potential earnings.

How Do I Set Up An Account?

All 3 companies will allow you to set up an account for free with basic information like your name and email address. After that you will input your RV information and the website will generate a price that they believe your per night or weekly rate will be. You can adjust the estimated price to suit your preferences.

What You Will Need For Lising-

  • RV details- Size, Length, Slideouts, Year, Make, Amenities etc…
  • Photos- the more the better so make sure your RV is camera ready!
  • What you offer to the guest(s)
  • Can/ Will you tow to location?
  • How many sleepers it will hold

What The Company Will Offer You:

  • Insurance Plan
  • Rental Platform
  • Ability to set rental dates

How Will You Get Paid Renting Out Your RV?

All transactions go through the rental platform and then make their way to you. The company will take a percentage of the profit. You will be paid the majority of the profits.

RVshare is Direct Deposit the day after the reservation funds are received 3-5 after processing.

Outdoorsy has payment for you 24/48 hours after the RV departs.

Rvezy is a little more reserved. They will pay 50% when the RV is rented and the rest when all paperwork is filled out and the RV is returned, it will still take 3-5 days for processing and payment.

*On each platform you can choose to deliver the RV to the destination within a specified distance or have it pick up / drop off only.

Why Rent An RV From A Company?

They are out for the same purpose, to get people travelling and allow many options to do just that.

They all have a payment system that allows them to collect money on your behalf so everything is taken care of and removes any awkward encounters with either party.

RV owners are in full control of their rentals which means that the renter gets to meet the owner and have a walkthrough about how everything works and the special touches they have put on their rental.

About RV Rental Companies

Every company has a story and I want to know what that story is telling me. I love a good introduction to people and I like to know how and why companies came about and what they say about themselves. You don’t have to go to each site and read them all or watch their videos, I can tell you a little bit about them here.

Outdoorsy

If you get the chance to read the founder story on the Outdoorsy page I highly recommend it. It is inspiring and touching. The people who started dreaming of this company in 2014 were hard working office people who needed a change and they went for it. They found people to believe in them and a vision to create a way to generate income for their future while putting their own life savings up in the beginning. Their story makes you want to be a part of what they have because of what they did to earn it all.

RVezy

The founder site has a video about themselves pitching their idea to an investment group on t.v. In 2016 They saw an opportunity to make money renting out rv’s after one of the founders rented out their own RV for profit. Needless to say, it was a hit!

RVShare

In 2012 newly wed couple had an idea to rent out their RV after it sat unused for long periods of time in between travel. They thought it would be a good idea to try and rent it out during these times. Eventually they realized that the idea could be much bigger and that there was no platform to service this niche so they created one. Making them the pioneers for this market due to the timeline.

Summary

There is no doubt that you can make money renting out your RV through these companies. You could list on all platforms if you would like to get your RV out on the road as much as possible. You can also market yourself by using FB marketplace or your local classifieds placing your link leading to your rental.

You may even wonder which company is the best when it comes to renting out your RV?. If you use all of them you can figure out which one you like best and hopefully you’ll write a review to help others make their decision.

Thank you for reading and as always, we hope to see you on the road!
